I wanted to do two more in this tropical beach series, although when I started the series, I had no idea there would eventually be 9! I decided to do two horizontals for a change, utilizing the palm species I had already used in IV & V. The scrollwork in the foreground asked to be put in after I had spent a week in Bali. I suspect I was influenced by the Balinese religious beliefs of worship and reincarnation. Perhaps this influenced my abstractness in the scrollwork becoming living palms...   I do not know. All I know is that what I did in these tropical beach paintings, needed to be done just that way… never before had I ever painted inanimate objects becoming living creatures!
